One of the most underrated cartoons of all time is coming back in 2017. That’s right! If you watched DuckTales as a kid, then you know why we are super excited to see the show return to our TV screens. Disney XD made an official announcement, stating that they plan to introduce the show and its characters to an entire new generation. Suffice it to say, we grown-ups won’t shy away from sitting down with the kids to watch the show. And cry a little. Nostalgia, am I right!
The show, which ran originally between 1987 and 1990 for three seasons took Disney’s fandom to a whole new level. And in the recent years, many artists and videogame creators have paid homage to the show. But nothing compares to the fact that the show is returning soon. Also, a lot has changed since the show went off air. If DuckTales was reintroduced now, this is how we imagine it would be:
1. A recession-hit Scrooge McDuck
The first thing we remember about the show is Scrooge McDuck’s dive into his massive pool of gold coins. As he waddled in his treasury, you could not help but wish you had that kind of money. But a recession-hit Scrooge would be fun to watch too. Imagine him jumping into the vault and landing on hard concrete. Hard times! Disney could dedicate an entire season, showcasing Scrooge working his way back up the ladder of wealth.
2. The pack, all grown up
Huey, Dewey, and Louie were an awesome trio as kids. Now imagine them in their teen years, battling all the issues that teenagers go through. High school crushes, pimples, drunk capers et al. Joined by Webbigail "Webby" Vanderquack, the triplets could connect with two different generations and still be child-like at the same time.
3. Bolder topics
At the heart of it, DuckTales was always about good triumphing over evil and family being more important than money. But nothing’s stopping the creators at Disney from taking a road less traveled and giving the show an edgier feel by introducing bolder themes. And most cartoons these days are created with more open-minded topics in mind that the kids today can connect with. What if one of the siblings was gay? What if Mr. Scrooge was battling a strange illness, the medication for which requires them to go on a crazy adventure! Oh, the possibilities are endless.
4. More crazy gadgets
Gyro Gearless, if you remember, was a character who appeared once in a blue moon on the show. But every time he did, he stole the limelight with his awesome gadgets. He was either building a time machine or a money relocator. His awesomeness knows no bounds. And this time around, they can give him some more limelight to connect with the tech-savvy kids. An inter-dimensional space machine or a diamond enlarger maybe?
5. Fiercer baddies!
Our adorable heroes are only as good as the villains. And we’ve had some really mean bad guys. Be it Flintheart Glomgold or the Beagle Boys, there was enough animosity for us to sink our teeth in. But a new line-up of villains is long overdue. And this is the right time for Disney to experiment.
Irrespective of what they change, one thing that deserves to remain the same is the introductory soundtrack. Oh dear goosebumps! DuckTales Woohoo!
