9 Fantastic Facts About J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Spinoff

Potterheads, rejoice! November is finally here, which means we are only a few days away from the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The new movie is based on the book of the same name, written by J. K. Rowling. The Harry Potter author is also set to make her screenwriting debut with the upcoming movie, which will be directed by David Yates. There is a new story, new characters, and the magic is more surreal than ever. For those who have not caught up with the details and rumors surrounding the film, here are nine fantastic facts you must know:

It is the story of Newt Scamander…

Potterheads will know all about the wizarding adventurer and Magizoologist, Newt Scamander. In the Potter world, he is also the author of the greatest book on magical creatures, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The film, unlike the book, details his adventures and experiences with these magical beasts.

…played by Eddie Redmayne

Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will be playing the role of Scamander. Other important actors in the cast include Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, and Dan Fogler. Unfortunately for Harry Potter fans, neither Daniel Radcliffe nor any of the former cast members will be seen in this movie.

It is based in the pre-Harry Potter era…

The story of Newt Scamander is set around the 1920s. So Harry, Hermoine, Ron, and even their parents, are not born yet. The wizarding world then was gripped by the exploits of another Dark wizard, who went by the name of Gellert Grindelwald

…and unlike Harry Potter, this movie is set in the US.

Newt’s adventures begin way south, in the USA, where he gets into trouble with the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), the American version of Ministry of Magic. The movie also has a prominent Muggle character, or as they are known in America – No-Maj

There will be three films…

The story has been divided into three separate movies, and what you are about to see this month is the first installment. The second movie is set to release in November 2018, while the third will be out sometime in 2020.

…featuring lots of fantastic beasts…

This movie has all the fascinating creatures from the Harry Potter franchise and more. Nifflers LethifoldsBowtruckles, and Merpeople feature in the trailer but expect a horde of other amazing beasts as well.

…and fantastic magical objects.

Remember Hermione’s beaded bag in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which used an Undetectable Extension Charm? It seems Newt has a similar briefcase, which not only contained his essentials, but also a horde of creatures, which are released into the non-magical force.

Johnny Depp will be in it too.

The popular actor is set to be a part of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie franchise, and will join the cast in the sequel. It is speculated that Johnny Depp will be playing the role of the Dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald. Depp's casting could mean that we may get a glimpse of the famous duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald
