#FilmyFlashback: It’s A Wonderful Life

It’s A Wonderful Life is a charming film set in the 1970s. The film directed by Frank Capra has become one of America’s holiday favorites.

The story follows the life of a boy George Bailey (James Stewart) who wants to shake the dust off of his shoes and travel the world. But because of responsibilities he has to forgo his ambitions and stay back in his hometown, Bedford Falls. As time passes, we see George giving up a little more and getting frustrated with his life. There comes a point where he contemplates suicide and that’s when his guardian angel, Clarence, comes and saves him.
It's a wonderful life
The characters in the film are simple yet marvelously created. George Bailey is obviously the star of the film, but his forgetful Uncle Billy (Thomas Mitchell), the mean Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore), and the love of his life Mary Hatch (Donna Reed), all lend stupendous mould to the film. It’s A Wonderful Life is one of those classic films, which never get old, no matter how many ever times you watch it. Even when you know how George’s life is going to turn out, you want to re-live the moments. Right from the time when he was a little boy and saves Mr. Gower (H.B. Warner) from committing a murder to the numerous times he stands up to Mr. Potter. You want to see him fall into the plunges of despair so that he can come back again and give us the most important lesson of all – "you’ve really had a wonderful life. Don’t you see what a mistake it would be to throw it away?"

It’s A Wonderful Life is a reminder that when times are tough we must remember that each life is touched by many other lives. The film is heart-warming and a must-must-watch. The script beautifully brings home the point that no matter what you think, everyone is here for a reason. As Clarence says,"Remember, George: No man is a failure who has friends."
