A fitting tribute to Amy Winehouse

Fans gathered to see the unveiling of the life-size bronze statue of Amy Winehouse, in Camden, England. 3 years after her death, Amy Winehouse was honored with a statue, on the occasion of her 31st birth anniversary.

The statue shows Amy Winehouse in her trademark oversized beehive hairdo and her hands on her hip. Made by sculptor Scott Eaton, this statue is completely grey. The only pop of colour in it is the red rose that sits on her hair. The statue was unveiled by the singer’s family and friends.

The popular singer, fought a battle with drinks and drugs, and was 27 when she was found dead at her home in London. Her family set up the Amy Winehouse Foundation to honor her memory and also to help people curb addiction.

Amy Winehouse achieved popularity and fame due to her distinctive voice. She won the hearts of people with her modern-jazz tones. We pay tribute to the singer by giving you her five best songs that made her one of the most-influential artists of the decade:

1. Rehab

This song is considered to be an autobiographical number. It refers to the effort put by Amy’s family to help her get into rehabilitation and her subsequent refusal to it. It reached the top ten in the UK and US, thanks to Amy’s powerful vocal performance.

2. Back to Black

What works to be one of the best break-up songs, Amy delivers a number that also proved her talent of being a lyricist. Shot completely in black and white, the music video reveals the rich monochrome detail that invokes pathos into the song. Her album was a worldwide hit and won her five Grammy awards.

3. In My Bed

Undoubtedly the standout track from the singer’s album, In My Bed is one of her best songs. This song reveals love, passion and also a much healthier and younger looking Amy!

4. Valerie

We just love musical collaborations, especially when two musically-talented singers give us a song to remember. Originally recorded by the English-Indie band the Zutons, the song got a twist when the pop diva rendered the number. Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse gave us a song that we’ll always remember.

5. Tears Dry on their own

Arguably one of the best songs from the album Back to Black, ‘Tears Dry on their own’ taught us about the pain one can face, when in love. The timeless feel it gives, combined with the lyrics, is purely heart-wrenching. "I don’t understand, why do I stress the man, when there are so many bigger things at hand".

We truly miss this iconic singer. May her soul rest in peace. What did you think of this list? Is there any other number you would like to add? Do let us know.
