If you’re a ’90s kid who didn’t grow up listening to boy bands and their mushy songs, you’re probably lying. Admit it, the ’90s gave us some of the coolest boy bands who can still make us swoon today. Ah, nostalgia!
We’ve put down a list of five super awesome boy bands who will never grow old in our hearts. Check it out.
1. Backstreet Boys
Has anyone ever escaped the charm of these ridiculously attractive ever-youthful boys? AJ, Howie, Nick, Brian and Kevin came together in 1993 and made us fall in love with their gooey songs for more than two decades. Add to it, over 130 million records sold worldwide and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – It doesn’t get any bigger. The Backstreet Boys recorded some of the most unforgettable songs, no matter how old we are! Still remember Quit Playing Games and I Want It That Way by heart? Of course you do.
Here’s one from the archives:
Boyzone was an Irish band formed in 1993, comprising of Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and the late Stephen Gately. The band split in 1999, only to return 7 years later sans Gately, who tragically passed away. Boyzone had their first UK hit single with a cover of Bee Gees’ “Words” in 1996, a song that struck a chord almost instantly. Oh, and who can forget their beautiful revival of “Love me for a reason”! Melodious much. Boyzone was the 2nd most successful British boy band, behind Take That.
Two years after the Backstreet Boys came into the limelight, America gave us another talented pop band in the form of ‘NSYNC. The group consisted of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. Some of the band’s most popular songs include "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You", "Bye Bye Bye". Although ‘NSYNC was active for less than a decade, their songs have definitely lived on for years together!
Our pick? Bye Bye Bye…
Another Irish band that had the girls drooling, Westlife was formed in 1998 with Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan and Brian McFadden (Brian parted ways in 2004). Apart from being unbelievably good looking, these Irish chocolate boys created some of the best pop music of their time. With hits like "Swear It Again", “Seasons In the Sun”, Westlife topped the pop charts around the world. After selling over 50 million records worldwide, the band officially announced their split in 2012 with a Greatest Hits album and an emotional message for its fans. Oh, Westlife. We love you!
5. Take That
Formed in 1990, Take That is an English band whose original line-up consisted of Robbie Williams (Wow) and Jason Orange. The band’s current members are Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen. Williams departed in 1995, post which the group officially disbanded until their comeback a decade later. He then returned only to part ways again in 2014 along with Orange. The boys recorded “The Flood”, featuring Williams for the first time since his return in 2010. Take That reunited as a five piece band for one last time in 2012 to perform their most popular single, “Never Forget”. With 27 songs in the UK charts, 11 of which made it to the No.1 position – Take That was the most successful and highly regarded boy band in the UK!
