Theatre veteran Om Katare’s Chinta Chhod Chintamani has completed over 250 shows. The family drama has been taking place at the Prithvi Theatre, Aspee Auduitom, Experimental Theatre: NCPA, and the Mysore Association Auditorium. So is the play as cool as its title? Find out below.
What’s Chinta Chhod Chintamani About:
Mr. Chintamani works at a bank and budhapa is starting to get the better of him. He is constantly cross with his three kids – Titu (Vedanta Katiyar), Gauri (Keya Gupta), and Bunty (Shreyas Shah). While his older son is a budding cricketer, the second one dreams of becoming an actor, which leaves him with little time to study. His only daughter Gauri (Pooja Mehta) is following the teachings of a spiritual leader and decides to leave home and serve people. Adding to the drama are Chintamani’s wife (Sapna Malhotra) and parents (Ashoke K Sharma and Priyanka Kaul). His father always sees the good side of things but his mom isn't amused easily. Through loads of comedy and a bit of drama, Chinta Chhod Chintamani shows how the elderly need to deal with the generation gap.
Om Katare not only directs this light-hearted drama but also plays the titular role. He nails it as the grumpy Chintamani, a man of principles who just can't seem to understand the younger generation. Katare is well supported by the rest of his cast and the actors playing his parents are the pick of the lot. There are numerous jokes in the play and most of the dialogues will make you giggle. The entire setup is relatable as the story is of a simple, middle-class family struggling to deal with personal issues. The dramatic scenes are performed with utmost sincerity and don’t feel over the top.
What Could've Been Better:
The ending feels like it is a bit rushed with things wrapping up in a hurry but that’s little to crib about in this otherwise delightful play, which we couldn't get enough of.
Why You Should Watch This Play:
Chinta Chhod Chintamani is a play that appeals to all age groups. It’s the perfect one to watch with your family and we guarantee that you will leave the auditorium with a huge grin on your face. There’s a reason why Chinta Chhod Chintamani is so popular amongst the family audience, so make sure you catch it soon.
