Framed Compositions

The art houz gallery in Chennai witnessed a one-of-a-kind photo exhibition. By none other than music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. On the walls of the gallery were displayed the photographs, clicked by him. While most music directors spend time working completely on their compositions, this music maestro liked taking pictures primarily as his hobby. The specialty about these photographs are the fact that they were all clicked with a film camera.

The photographs were predominantly taken in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The most outstanding photograph is that elderly man sitting against the backdrop of a magnificent serene landscape. The angle the picture was taken, the composition resulted in a perfect intriguing shot. Another notable mention; a photograph, a mysterious photo of a girl, which was very well-timed. These photographs displayed a strong emphasis on aesthetic elements which added to the beauty.

The ace music director also visited this exhibition for a brief time. Addressing to the media he said "Anyone can take good photos with a digital camera because it is easy. Talent is when you are able to do it the difficult way. Which is why I stopped taking photos after digital cameras were introduced”. He religiously follows the same principle when it comes to composing music.

The exhibition was organized by artist and painter, A.P. Sreethar, who also plans to release the coffee table book comprising these photographs. The exhibition depicted the relationship between Ilaiyaraaja and his love for photography as he captured more than 5000 photographs spanning three decades.
