Free Birds is the labor of love of director Jimmy Hayward, of Horton Hears a Who, fame.
The film surely has an interesting plot. It’s the story of two turkeys who travel back in time, to the first Thanksgiving. Their only aim is to take turkeys off the menu forever.
Time travel in itself is capable of creating a very interesting hook for a film. And Free Birds is all about going back in time and kicking some ass on the first Thanksgiving Day.
Director Jimmy Hayward has been associated with several animations that were exteremly well-received and did very well at the box office, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Toy Story to name a few.
The film also stars the voice of Owen Wilson, who has previously done a fabulous job lending his voice in films like Cars, Cars 2, Fantastic Mr.Fox and some others. He plays the role of a turkey named Reggie, who is funny, smart and generally terrified of everything. The role of Jenny, a female turkey (hen) is played by Amy Poehler. Jenny is beautiful, courageous and whip-smart. The character of Jake, the turkey is voiced by Woody Harrelson, who is on a mission to save all the turkeys.
The trailer too looks promising and seems like a sure-hit amongst kids. How the two turkey’s go about changing things on the first Thanksgiving day is something that the audience is largely looking forward to. However, the film is going to get tough competition at the box office as Thor 2: The Dark World releases along with it. While 2 Turkey’s will be saving all of Turkey-kind from the horrors of Thanksgiving, Thor will battle to save all the Nine Realms from a mysterious enemy, older than the universe itself. As it releases this Friday, we’ll have to wait for the audience to decide as to which cause is nobler, or simply more fun to watch.
