Fun Facts About 5 Animated Films

In the past few years, we have seen a steady rise in the number of animated films of very superior quality, that have the potential to overtake our generic rom-coms and thrillers. However, there are a few animated films which stand apart from the rest with their witty humor and life-like characters. Be it singing along to Elsa’s Let it go or going bananas over the minions, these films are our all-time favorites.

The following are some interesting facts about animated films that did exceptionally well not just at the box office, but were successful in winning over people’s hearts and setting trends.

Frozen (2013)

Disney’s Frozen took the globe by storm and is on the top of the list, gathering a whopping $1.28 bn at the global box office, making it one of the highest grossing animated films ever. The movie melted our hearts with Elsa’s magic, Anna and Hans’s romance and the adorable summer-seeking snowman, Olaf. Post the film, tourism in Norway saw a drastic rise and Elsa and Anna have become popular baby names. In a way, this cold saga managed to thaw more than a few hearts!

Minions (2015)

Since they first appeared in Despicable Me, the minions became stars and took over the world with their craziness. They were an instant hit and became the most loved animated characters. Their much awaited 2015 movie had a worldwide grossing of over $1.1 billion which indeed proves, there is no such thing as too much cuteness. From David Beckham getting a temporary minion tattoo for his daughter to a never-ending range of minions-inspired merchandise, nothing was too much. So much so that minion nail art is a trend and minion yellow an official color.

Toy Story 3 (2010)

The third instalment of the Toy Story series was the third highest grossing animated film of all time. Since the first movie in 1995, Woody voiced by Tom Hanks and Buzz Lightyear by Tim Allen, never failed to entertain and they continue to do so. However, we bet you didn’t know that Woody was often voiced by Tom’s brother Jim Hanks when he was busy on other projects. Pixar is all set to come out with a fourth installment, which is scheduled to release in 2017.

Finding Nemo (2003)

One of the most charming films ever, with the most adorable characters, the story of father-son duo, Marlin and Nemo, pulled at our heartstrings. This underwater tale is the highest selling DVD of all time. And did you know, the director of the film decided to cast Ellen DeGeneres as Dory, after watching her change subjects five times before completing a sentence on her show. The film’s sequel, Finding Dory, hits cinemas soon in June 2016.

The Lion King (1994)

The Lion King is one of the finest animated films ever made and paved the way for more films in this genre with its two Academy Awards. Not many people know that the film is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It is the second highest selling film on DVD after Finding Nemo. The film was initially going to be called King of the Jungle until the makers realized that lions do not live in the jungle but in the Savannah.
