How do you deal with it when the woman you love dumps you? Do you wallow in self-pity, trying to drown your sorrows in alcohol? Do you go on a serial dating spree? Or do you adopt a kitten that you find on your doorstep one day? While a lot of people might choose option one or two because they like to go the tried and tested way, this hilarious film starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, of Key & Peele fame, takes option three as its starting point.
Jordan’s character, Rell Williams, is in a world of pain when his girl leaves him and he takes in a kitten to help him get over this difficult time. Unfortunately for him, this kitten, who he’s named Keanu, is stolen when his house is broken into. Unwilling to give up on his beloved cat, he and his friend Clarence (Keegan-Michael), pretend to be drug dealers working for a street gang to get his cat back from the gangsters who have it. Of course, a lot of insane situations and crazy characters with comic potential are seen as the story progresses.
Keanu is the first major film production that Jordan Peele is a part of. Before this, he has largely been seen in TV shows, with many recurring parts and one-episode roles to his credit. He is not the only TV actor to be seen in comedy movies, of late. Actor Anthony Anderson, who is the lead in the TV series Black-ish, was also seen in Barbershop: The Next Cut. Keegan-Michael Key has also had roles in several movies, like Tomorrowland, Vacation and Pitch Perfect 2, and multiple TV series, like Playing House, The Hotwives of Las Vegas, and Parks and Recreation. Clearly, their comic talent cannot be restricted to any one format.
Fans of Key and Peele will be interested in knowing about their upcoming movies, one of which is the animated movie Storks. Jordan and Keegan-Michael will be giving their voices for this film, as will Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame, and Kelsey Grammer, who the world knows as the star of the long-running TV show, Frasier. There seems to be a lot of comic talent in the cast for this animated movie, which takes off from the children’s story that babies are delivered by storks. In this film, the Storks have moved on to delivering packages and are thrown off when they mistakenly receive a baby for delivery. How they fulfill this order forms the rest of the story.
Clearly, comedies about animals are very popular and this would explain the spate of such movies that we’re seeing.
Key and Peele actors are now in a movie of their own called Keanu, which is about a man’s love for his cat. This comedy caper is one of the many recent movies to star a TV actor. This comic duo will also be heard in the animated movie Storks.
