Gautamiputra Satakarni is the 100th movie of the legendary actor Nandamuri Balakrishna. Directed by Anjanaputra Krish Jagarlamudi and produced under First Frame Entertainments, this film is based on the life story of second century AD Satavahana ruler Gautamiputra Satakarni. Expectations are rife right from the time this movie was announced. Let’s see if Krish is able to succeed in meeting the expectations of the audience.
Gautamiputra Satakarni (Nandamuri Balakrishna) is a mighty Satavahana ruler who believes in conquering the whole country and make it stand united in the form of Akand Bharat. He is the only son of Gautami Balashri (Hema Malini) who is a widow. Satakarni is married to Vasishta Devi (Shriya Saran) and they have two children. The core concept of the movie deals with Satakarni invading two kingdoms that belong to Nahapana (Kabir Bedi) and the character portrayed by Milind Gunaji. Apart from this, he also fights a war with Greek Invaders led by Demitri. How Gautamiputra Satakarni was able to triumph against all odds needs to watched on the big screen.
This is a tailor-made role for Nandamuri Balakrishna. He could not have asked for anything better than this for his 100th movie. Shriya as Vasishta Devi gave a terrific performance. She is glamorous than ever before. Hema Malini as Gautami Balashri suited the role perfectly and gave a decent performance. Kabir Bedi as Nahapana is at his best. Shiva Raj Kumar did a cameo in portraying the story of Satakarni and did justice to his role. The elder kid of Satakarni is adorable and played a crucial part in the movie. Rest of the cast is adequate.
Any word to praise the director Anjanaputra Krish will not be enough. It is a proud moment for the Telugu film Industry to have a director like him who has nurtured this epic classic in a span of less than three months. The nuances of film making he garnered have to be learned and appreciated. For sure, he will be a director that the whole Indian film industry will look out for. Cinematography by Gnana Shekar is a huge asset for this movie and so is the music and background score by Chiranthan Bhatt. Dialogues by Sai Madhav Burra are exceptional. Production values by First Frame Entertainment are grand and lavish. Editing by Suraj Jagtap and Rama Krishna Arram is crisp and neat.
