The sequel to one of the best adult comedies India has seen, Grand Masti, is awaited by many. Let’s hope this film lives up to the many expectations of its viewers.
Back in 2004, when Masti was released; the film caused an uproar in the country. Pure unadulterated adult comedy, at its very best. Grand Masti, however, fails to deliver and lacks the punch than the first part. What we get from the film is the same old drill. People who have watched movies such as American Pie or even Austin Powers, will not be very impressed by the film. Like most other sequels that are released in India, Grand Masti is lackluster.
Three married guys, Meet (Viveik Oberoi), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) and Amar (Riteish Deshmukh) go out on a fun experience at their college reunion in Shree Lalchand University ofTechnology and Science (S.L.U.T.S.), finally to be trapped in a dangerous situation. Things go haywire from pretty much all angles and then begins the "try-to-laughathon". More than a comedy, this film felt like it was a bosom fest. A fest that could have been backed by better jokes. The jokes were outrageous and will put quite a few people in the audience into massive fits of laughter. But barring those few scenes, the rest is humor that may make you want to choke yourself.
The first half of the film is not very bad. Not that the audience is going to expect something miraculous to happen, but still decent enough to watch. The second half of the film, however, is a letdown. Too many random events. Too haywire. At one point, the audience may just want this to end. Sure, this is a film that needs your brains to be left at home, but you cant help the fact that atleast a "newer" set of jokes could have been expected. There were few moments in the movie, though, where you would die laughing. Really good stuff. But, apart from those moments, the rest of the film was like a merry-go-round on steroids.
On the acting front, barring the three protagonists, pretty much everybody did a mediocre job. Some were exceptionally bad, though. The music was something that could have been removed from the film. No effect on the movie whatsoever. Grand Masti, like I mentioned earlier, is the kind of movie you would not like if you have seen Hollywood’s set of adult comedies. Else, you may enjoy it a little.
