Happy birthday to the very legendary, the "Angry Young Man", the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, who turns 74 today. Where do we even start with the Big B? With a career spanning more than four decades, he has dominated most of those years, especially the 70s and 80s. He was even called a "one man industry" in the process. With pretty much every film award under the sun, he has also been honored with the Padma Vibhushan, most recently, for his vital contribution to cinema.
Ever since his debut in 1969 as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award-winning film Bhuvan Shome, he hasn't looked back, eventually making it to the summit. He has excelled in films such as Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay, Baghban, the list goes on. He was yet again delivered an outstanding performance recently in the highly-acclaimed film, Pink, which is still running in theaters. Today, on his birthday, we have a list of some of his top dialogues over the years (of course we couldn't list them all). He is The Amitabh Bachchan, after all.
"Hum jaha khade ho jaate hai line wahin se shuru hoti hai."
"Agar apni maa ka doodh piya hai toh saamne aa."
"Tumhara naam kya hain, Basanti?"
"Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hain."
"Jab tak baithne ko na kaha jaaye, sharafat se khade raho. Ye police station hai. Tumhare baap ka ghar nahi."
"Main aaj bhi phenke hue paise nahin uthata."
"Sawaal jis zabaan mein kiya jaye, jawaab us hi zabaan mein dena chahiye."
"Aaj itni bhi maisir nahi maikhane mein, jitni hum chhod diya karte the paimane mein."
"Phool khamosh rehkar bhi apne rang aur khusboo se bahut kuch keh jaate hai."
"Mujhe joh sahi lagta hai main karta hoon. Woh chahe bhagwan ke khilaaf ho, samajh ke khilaaf ho, police, kanoon, yah phir poore system ke khilaaf kyun na ho."
"Ek baap agar apne bete ki zindagi ka pehla kadam uthane mein uski madad kar sakta hai, toh wahi beta apne baap ke aakhri kadam uthane mein usse sahara kyun nahi de sakta?"
"Har badi kamyaabi ke peeche ek bahut bada balidaan hota hai."
Finally, his entire monologue in Pink (2016). Every speech he makes in the court hits you hard. Especially in the end, where he simply says, "No."
