Happy Birthday, Chiranjeevi: Memorable movies of the matinee idol

 His spectacular screen presence sends every fan into a frenzy. His unique style has impressed many, and his hold on the Indian film industry has won him a Padma Bhushan. Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi has become a part of Indian cinema’s history. He started out playing negative roles in films, and gradually rose to fame as the lead protagonist. The actor has completed 35 years in the industry- an achievement that must be applauded. The superstar is now all set to celebrate his 60th birthday on 22nd August. And we’re pretty sure his fans are excited about it! Here’s a list of films that every true Chiranjeevi fan has on his fave list.

Rudraveena (1988)
Directed by K. Balachander, this film brought out the acting prowess of the star. Devoid of action, fight sequences and punch dialogues, this film showed the audience a new avatar of Chiranjeevi.
Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (1990)

Gharana Mogudu (1992)
The film that catapulted Chiranjeevi into the league of big heroes, Gharana Mogudu is also reported to be the first film to cross 10 crores at the box-office – a commendable feat for a film of that time.
Sneham Kosam (1999)
A film that focused on the love-hate relationship between a father-and-son duo. Chiranjeevi’s performance in this heart-warming tale will melt your heart!
Tagore (2003)
The remake of A.R. Murugadoss‘ Tamil film Ramanaa, Tagore dealt with corruption and political injustice. This release of this film commemorated Chiranjeevi’s 25th year in showbiz. His intense and hard-hitting performance was indeed memorable.
Stalin (2006)
Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, this action-drama was a masala film with a strong message. And who better than a superstar like Chiranjeevi to star in this role. Chiranjeevi’s subtle yet strong performance won the hearts of critics!
There you have it – some of the most noteworthy films of this impressive actor. His last film was Shankar Dada Zindabad that released in 2007. The actor will be back on screen after a 8-year hiatus in his son Ram Charans next film, directed by Srinu Vaitla. He is also gearing up for his 150th film. We can’t wait!
