Happy Birthday Vivek Oberoi!

When an actor isn't playing the conventional Bollywood hero in his debut film, it isn't always easy for him to get the kind of attention a conventional hero would, leave alone winning awards and becoming an instant hit. Having said that, 2002 gave us an actor that somehow defied the notion. Yes, we're talking about none other than Vivek Oberoi, an actor who not only made his debut with Company, but also went on to win various awards for it. Since then, he has gone from playing a gangster to a romantic hero. He has managed to tickle the funny bone with his adult comedies, even. Despite having an oscillating career, he has managed to surprise us time and again.

On his birthday, let us take a look at some of his films, that prove he has his 'act' in actor:

Saathiya (2002)
It was rather exciting to see the 'criminal' turn into a romantic hero in this Shaad Ali-flick. Saathiya didn't only go on to become a hit at the box office, but also earned Vivek a Filmfare nomination in the Best Actor category.

Omkara (2006)
Vivek's role in Vishal Bhardwaj's film, Omkara, was based on the character Michael Cassio from Shakespeare's play, Othello. Despite the film being a multi-starrer, his performance as Kesu, did not fail to garner praise from industry veterans.

Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007)
In this film, the actor played an action hero once again. He essayed the role of Maya Dolas, bringing to life an infamous real-life gun battle. Not only did his performance earn rave reviews, but also a Filmfare nomination for Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Rakta Charitra (2010)
In Ram Gopal Varma's two-part biographical-crime bilingual, Rakta Charitra, Vivek Oberoi plays the the role of Paritala Ravindra, an angry young man-turned-political player who takes down his enemies one by one. His confident portrayal of the character garnered critical appreciation and a Screen Award nomination for Best Actor.

Krrish 3 (2013)
In Krrish 3, Vivek played Kaal, a mutant, that is nothing like the conventional villain. He is extremely powerful but handicapped. With this role, Vivek managed to give 'the bad guy' a new definition.
