Director Christopher Landon has written a few Paranormal Activity movies and directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Happy Death Day is set out to be a big hit for him. With the producer of Get Out and The Purge Jason Blumhouse on board, we can expect this to be a quality horror film.
Happy Death Day is a crazed love child of Scream and Groundhog Day. A college student has to relive a day over and over again – her birthday – until she dies and the day restarts all over again. To get out of this time loop, she has to solve her own gruesome murder and find the killer. It's a slasher film, and it's also funny at times, and it's also a murder mystery that has to be solved by the victim herself.
The lead of this film is Jessica Rothe who played the role of Mia's friend, Alexis, in La La Land. Happy Death Day also stars Israel Broussard, who starred alongside Emma Watson in The Bling Ring, Ruby Modine, who's known for her role as Sierra in the TV series, Shameless, Charles Aitken, who had a short role on The Girl on the Train, and a newcomer Rachelle Matthews.
