This Friday, romance and drama will clash at the box-office. Mohit Suri’s much-awaited Half Girlfriend will release alongside Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium, which was supposed to hit theaters on May 12. Since Meri Pyaari Bindu, Sarkar 3, Alien: Covenant, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and many other films were releasing on that day, Hindi Medium was pushed by a week.
Half Girlfriend is based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller of the same name. This is the author's fourth book after The 3 Mistakes of My Life, 2 States: The Story of My Marriage, and One Night @ the Call Center to be adapted on screen. The film stars Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles as Madhav Jha and Riya Somani. Half Girlfriend's album is already topping the charts with Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga and Baarish being the standout numbers. Shraddha Kapoor, who generally sings a track in most her movies, has sung Phir Bhi Tumko Chahungi.
Hindi Medium, on the other hand, is a satire that tackles various social issues. It shows how a family tries to get their daughter admitted to an English medium school and go to any length to achieve this. Irrfan Khan’s co-star is the Pakistani actress, Saba Qamar. Deepak Dobriyal, who is known for the Tanu Weds Manu series, will also be seen in Hindi Medium.
So, here it is. While Half Girlfriend will warm the cockles of your heart, Hindi Medium will make you think about the partiality our society shows towards the underprivileged.
