Hitman: Agent 47: Film Review – High on plot, low on execution

Hitman: Agent 47 is an action-packed journey you could enjoy this weekend. Will it remind you of other ‘agent’ movies you’ve watched? Maybe not. Will you be reminded of the Hitman video game series? Maybe a little. The film really gives you an hour-and-a-half of well-shot action sequences and some very well-executed scenes.

The story line is strong and original, and maintains a different plotline than the video game. You are hooked from the very beginning and you’ll love the initial few minutes into the film. A genetics doctor has been able to create the ultimate killing machine through gene mutation. The result is an army called Agents who have a barcode at the back of their head and can be identified only by their number. They are unparalleled when it comes to killing and the doctor realizes he has created a race of assassins who will ultimately be used for all the wrong purposes. Burdened by his guilt and wish to escape, he flees with his wife and daughter, and is never heard from again. And there begins a search to look for the only man who can build the race of the strongest, smartest and fastest hitmen on the planet.

Fast forward and we meet the sharp, agile hitman who doesn’t have the slightest hint of a smile on his handsome face. He means business and isn’t here to charm the ladies. Agent 47 only knows ho to kill and is devoid of all emotions. He is all about the weapons. From sniper rifles to sharp knifes, he uses them all. The ruthless assassin is played by Rupert Friend who does a fine job. Katia Van Dees, the grown-up daughter looking for her father is played by Hannah Ware, who looks the part and plays it well too. Agent 47’s nemesis is John Smith (Zachary Quinto). His character fails to impress and the sketch leaves a lot to be desired.

The other performances in the movie are average and fail to make a lasting impression. After a promising start, you tend to expect a lot more from Hitman: Agent 47 and the movie is unable to an extent to hold your attention. However, you will definitely not mind giving this Hitman a shot once.

Why you should watch this film:
Ardent fans of the video game will enjoy this movie. The action scenes are wonderfully imagined and executed, and must be a treat to watch.
