 The only time most of us switch on the television is to watch our favourite sitcoms. Ultimately longer than films, with much more drama and suspense in them, sitcoms offer a whole lot of entertainment. And thanks to the internet, we even end up watching whole seasons of sitcoms we love within a week. Sitcoms also serve as a gateway for actors to get into the big, bad world of movies. How can one forget ‘Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston‘s transition to cinema! There are some more renowned actors in the movie world, who started off their careers in sitcoms. We ‘ve listed here some of the popular stars who did so:

Steve Carell
 
 
One of Hollywood’s funniest men, Steve Carell had done a number of television shows, over the years, before he was selected to star in the American version of The Office. He later took a break from the series and delivered several hit films.
 
Leonardo DiCaprio 
 
 
Undoubtedly one of the biggest names in Hollywood today, Leonardo DiCaprio made his acting debut in Parenthood. He then appeared in the final season of Growing Pains as a young, homeless person. The actor made his film debut with The Basketball Diaries.
 
Ryan Reynolds
 
 
Prior to starring in films, the Dead Pool star was part of a popular show – Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place.
 
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
 
 
Long before he appeared in 500 Days Of Summer, Gordon-Levitt played Tommy Solomon, an old alien forced to inhabit the body of a teenager, in the popular series 3rd Rock from the Sun. 
 
Jennifer Lawrence
 
 
Hollywood’s highest paid actress, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence also began her career with a sitcom. She portrayed a scheming teenager on the family sitcom The Bill Engvall Show. Needless to say, it was far less successful than her film career.
 
George Clooney
 
 
The world’s sexiest man, George Clooney had recurring roles in the sitcoms The Facts of Life and Roseanne. And before that in the hit series E/R. This star has clearly ruled the small screen, and the big screen.
