Hotel Transylvania 2: Film Review: You Must Check-in

Verdict: A fun, family entertainer!

There’s something about animation films that keeps you hooked even though there are no actors. Obviously, the story, dialogues and soundtrack are more important for an animation film to succeed than a regular one. And Hotel Transylvania 2, the sequel to the 2012 film, marks a solid tick on all the three boxes.

The original film followed a human who enters the hotel filled with vampires and falls in love with one, and the sequel takes that story forward. Count Dracula (Adam Sandler) is still the manager of Hotel Transylvania and now his daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez), is expecting her first child. After the son is born, the Count is hell bent on making him a vampire while the kid continues to show human traits. He also manages to get his son-in-law, Jonathan (Andy Samberg), on his side.

The troubles taken to make the child a ghoul and whether he becomes one or not form the rest of the plot. Many characters from the first film return and are just as hilarious in this one. Out of them, Wayne, Murray and the Mummy provide a lot of laughs. The makers have also tried to give the film a modern feel so you have voice calls, the GDFR song and much more. One thing you can’t help but notice is Sony’s in-your-face promotion of their smartphones and laptops throughout the film.

The animation, like all Sony Pictures productions, is top-notch and the film has a wonderful soundtrack, too. The lyrics of Suffer Suffer and Nutsy Koo Koo will definitely make you giggle. Adam Sandler has not only given the voice-over for Count Dracula but has also co-written the film and a few songs along with Robert Smigel.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

The characters may look scary, but they are extremely endearing. Also, the dialogues are hilarious. And with a run-time of just ninety minutes, it’s a must-watch for both the young and the old.

Hotel Transylvania 2 releases in India on 6th November, 2015.
