There's a lot of buzz around Hrithik Roshan's upcoming movie, Kaabil, where he plays the role of a blind man. Kaabil is the story of Rohan Bhatnagar (Hrithik Roshan) who falls in love and marries a blind woman Sue (Yami Gautam). Tragedy befalls the couple when Sue is killed and Rohan has to avenge his wife's death on his own when he is refused help.
Hrithik has played differently-abled characters on the screen before such as Ethan Mascarenhas in Guzaarish, who was quadriplegic. His previous forays in the direction of such characters did not meet much success, but Kaabil seems set to prove it wrong. As a dedicated actor, he took the preparation for the role quite seriously and put a lot of effort getting everything just right for the character.
Hrithik Roshan has taken cues from the Hollywood star Al Pacino. He studied Pacino's acting in the movie The Scent of a Woman, a role that got the Hollywood legend a well-deserved Oscar.
He also met and interacted at length with several blind people, who he welcomed in his home. He got to experience their lives first-hand as he saw how they navigated through their lives without vision.
Not only that, the action sequences too also had to be tailored to fit a character who cannot see, which was a challenge in itself. The dancing also had to be modified to suit the role, but Hrithik found it quite fulfilling and praised the choreographer, Ahmed Khan.
Clearly, a lot of thought has gone into this movie to make it as realistic as possible. Hrithik has said that his interaction with his co-star Yami was also enhanced as they had to focus on their presence rather than looking into each other's eyes. Ronit Roy, who plays the villain in the movie with his brother, Rohit Roy, also had a tutor to get the Marathi twang for his character.
