At the first glance of the trailer, Hunterrr appears to be a raunchy adult comedy. One that would make many squirm in their seats. No surprise there. However, Harshavardhan Kulkarni‘s Hunterrr has a lot in store besides the humorous sleaze.
The film stars Gulshan Devaiah in the lead role as Mandar Ponkshe. Hunterrr chronicles Mandar’s life and relationships. He is an expert in vasugiri. His technique of wooing girls is simple – always go for the second best, the chances are higher. Kulkarni uses flashbacks to give us an insight into Mandar’s life. Sprinkled with good puns, the first half of the film is fun. Kulkarni’s Hunterrr is filled with nostalgia, especially for the school days. The tuition classes, the first proposal, the first date and much more. It will somewhat remind you of Nagesh Kukunoor‘s brilliant film Rockford (1999). But Hunterrr takes a different route. Here, Mandar grows up to be man with extreme libido. From the demure college girl to the neighbor’s alluring wife to a certain Savita Bhabhi, Mandar is a complete ladies’ man. But chaos and hilarity ensue when Mandar finally decides to get married, and begins the hunt for a girl who is perfect marriage material. But, of course, destiny has it’s own course.
Gulshan Devaiah gives an earnest performance. Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar also give commendable performances. In fact, all the characters in the film have a charm of their own. The songs are good and work well with the film.
However, the film tires you out. The conclusion is dragging and will question your patience. The climax becomes drab and misses the initial punch.
Why should you watch the film? It’s very rare that Bollywood treats us with adult comedies. And here, we are talking about good comedy and not trash like Grand Masti. Hunterrr is the perfect film for a weekend watch. Packed with comedy and drama, this Hunterrr will make you roarrr with laughter!
