First T20i, Bangalore
While Ishant Sharma tried his best to prove that he is an aggressive (pace) bowler with his mouth, Pakistan proved yet again why they are the most dangerous t20 side in world cricket.
In the first India vs Pak t20 match for as long as one can remember, it was tennis star Sania Mirza that may have been left with a bittersweet sheepish grin. Shoaib Malik, ex-captain and all-rounder, who has regularly been out of favour over the last few years, sealed his comeback with a six from the bowling of the biggest enigma in indian cricket- Ravindra Jadeja.
While Dhoni’s India have now tasted defeat of the last over for the second time in a row, many questions will be asked of the team selected- that bore a look of an experiment gone frightfully awry. With Rohit Sharma batting at 7, and 8 batsmen being played, it was never going to be straightforward for the stubborn captain- and now that his bowlers, bar the brilliant B. Kumar, let Pakistan through the gate, it is all or nothing once again.
With everyone except Hafeez and Malik failing in pakistan’s brittle batting lineup- it was going to be India’s batting vs Pakistan’s bowling. Other than India’s openers, gambhir and rahane, none of the lineup really proved that they were still not reeling from the england thrashing. With Tendulkar announcing his odi retirement, all the batsmen seemed to be pre-occupied about their own future, and succumbed to the best bowling lineup in world t20 cricket. While pakistan huffed and puffed to overhaul the target, it will be the spat between Ishant and Kamran that will take the headlines.
An India-Pakistan match, t20 or not, is an extremely emotional and heated affair, with fans baying for blood for most parts of a series. 1-0 up in india’s backyard, it is team Pakistan that head into the second t20 with a chance to inflict more hurt on India’s most confused man right now- a Zimbabwean named duncan fletcher.
