So what makes it so popular in the rest of the world? Because it is celebrated in honor of Saint Patrick, the Christian saint, many Christians all over the world observe this day. It also serves as a break from the Lent traditions of not consuming alcohol or meat. So that’s a win-win! In Ireland, today is a national holiday. Do you know the stars who will be on a break today, celebrating this special day? Here are 10 celebs you probably didn’t know were Irish:

 

Aiden Gillen

The actress, who played the iconic Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series, hails from County Louth in Ireland. Having made her debut in Harry Potter, Lynch has since been a part of an Irish film titled My Name Is Emily.

 

Jamie Dornan

While he is known for playing Christian Grey on the big screen, Dornan in reality is 50 shades of green. The actor was born in County Down, and raised in Belfast, before he moved to London. He is also famous for his role as the serial killer Paul Spector in the crime drama series, The Fall, which is set in Northern Ireland.

Colin Farrell

It recently came to light that the Loving actress is of Ethiopian descent. But Negga’s mother, Norra, hails from Ireland. After her father’s death when she was seven, she was raised by her mother in Limerick, Ireland, before she moved to London in 2006.

Littlefinger’s love interest, Lady Catelyn Stark, also comes from Ireland, like him. The actress was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, and moved to Belfast after her graduation. Even though she’s Irish, Fairley never appeared in an Irish film or show.
