Verdict: The need of the day with its perfect message.
For the first time, Puri Jagannadh and Kalyan Ram joined hands for ISM. Being produced under Kalyan Ram’s own banner – Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Arts – the expectations and hype surrounding this flick sky-rocketed when the first look teaser of the movie released. With so much hype, the makers decided not to release a theatrical trailer as it would double the expectations. Let’s see if the team was able to meet the expectations that it set.
Dasaradh Ram (Tanikella Bharani) is a sincere journalist and gets beaten by the local politician and goons for exposing corruption. He gets warned by them that his family will face dire consequences if he repeats it again. This makes him leave his pen. The film then shifts to Tenerife Island where Javed Ibrahim (Jagapati Babu) runs his mafia empire. He has a daughter Alia Khan (Aditi Arya) whom he loves more than anything in this world. Kalyan Ram (Kalyan Ram) is an illegal fighter who does this for quick money. He falls in love with Alia Khan at first sight and tries to woo her. He also gets close to Javed Ibrahim and at a particular time, expresses his love for his daughter. Will Javed accept this relation? What is the real identity of Kalyan Ram? Who is Satya Marthand? What he did to expose the corrupt politicians for a better society forms the crux of ISM.
Kalyan Ram, as Kalyan Ram and Satya Marthand, is terrific. He has enacted both shades of his character to perfection. His makeover from his earlier movies with a six-pack body is awesome. All his hard work clearly reflects in the movie. Jagapati Babu as Javed Bhai is equally good in the role of an antagonist who finds sympathy in the later part of the movie. Aditi Arya as Alia Khan is adequate and needs improvements in expressions and acting. Posani Krishna Murali as the corrupt politician suited the role. Vennela Kishore as Kalyan Ram’s buddy was able to get some laughs, along with Ali in the role of marriage broker Don Bosco. Tanikella Bharani is apt in the role of a sincere journalist and hero’s father. ISM is Puri Jagannadh’s show all the way. He needs to be commended for the way he showcased Kalyan Ram and the guts he portrayed in telling a story which is the need of the hour. All the dialogues in the movie make more sense for a better society. The channel chosen by the protagonist to take on the corrupt system is awesome and one could relate it to the famous Wiki leaks. Music by Anup Rubens is excellent. Bhaskara Bhatla needs to be appreciated for his lyrics. Cinematography by Mukesh G. is top-notch.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
ISM is an eye-opener for the people to realise how corrupt the system has become, and is a tribute to journalists. Watch it for Puri’s power-packed punches and the wholesome entertainment.
