The journey to Art Hop festival

Yesterday I wrote with so much ingenuity about my true feelings towards Art Hop, and promised that I will also talk about the actual Art Hop experience… straight from the heart. This one directly talks about a Sunday well-spent amidst dance, music and workshops.

It all started somewhere around 12 noon. The first thing I experienced at the festival was the ballet. Is there a better way to start your day? And, if you are watching India’s leading ballerina, Ava Bharucha’s troupe performing the Globally-acclaimed piece ‘Swan Lake’. My mind instantly shifts to Natalie Portman! Can’t help it. Anyway, the ballerina brightened up my day and I got all charged up to explore more. Thought it would be better to sustain the pulse of the ballerina and watch another performance. Hence, I headed straight to catch Argentinian Tango (for the first time) followed by Lindy Hop: The Dance From Harlem New York. It was certainly an experience of its kind as I haven’t watched this art form before. Now I felt that it was time to hop on to the next venue (Art Hop took place at 12 venues simultaneously in Bandra, Mumbai).

I also heard an acoustic set of music that was being played by True School of Music. Compositions by various artists like from John Mayer to Eminem entertained everyone who was a part of the festival. At the end of every song, there were only smiles and thunderous applause on the performances from the band. Reading the pamphlet (Art Hop guide), I glanced across something which said Supersonic Aero Modelling Workshop. It seemed just the right idea after dance and music to make things a little more serious (as we all love to be at times) and ran directly to a place called Temperance to catch the show.

I got some amount of education and gyaan about Aero-Modelling here. No, I am not going to tell you what Aero-Modelling is, but the least I would say is that it reminded me of my years at the university when I was a student. After this, I sat down and decided what to attend next. Participating in the Photography Workshop and attending a Poetry event seemed logical and would have completed my creatively-constructive day. Attending both these workshops were fun and learning at the same time, especially the photography workshop, that made me feel that there is so much to capture around us with a camera even if it is only a mobile camera.

In a few words, Art Hop was an enriching experience for me and it’s something that I shall remember for a long time. You must catch this festival whenever it comes to your city. I am certain that it won’t leave you disappointed.
