Journey of Bhangover: Film Review – What A Trip!

Verdict: A mix of hangover, music and a lot of comedy.

Bhang – a delicacy of Northern India – is served commonly during festivals like Holi and Navratri. On one such Holi, five friends have bhang, which leads to hilarious consequences, shown in the newly released movie – Journey of Bhangover. Directed by Mahinder Singh Saniwal, this movie stars Prerika Arora, Aradhya Taing, Jimmy Sharma, Anmol Khatri, and Palash Soni in the lead.

What's Journey of Bhangover About:

The film revolves around five friends – Ram (Jimmy Sharma), Nisha (Prerika Arora), Ravi (Palash Soni), Sagar (Anmol Khatri), and Sudeepa (Aradhya Taing), who get high on bhang during a Holi party. Later they get Pandey (Hemant Pandey) – the hostel warden – to drive them to each of their houses to celebrate the buzz. The next day, they are interrogated by a police officer (Yashpal Sharma) regarding the arrest of two terrorists, who were captured by the group. While they cannot remember events from the previous day, there's just one person who can take them through their journey of 'bhangover'.

What Works:

The movie is shot around the scenic locations of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana and has picturized the lush green beauty of the mountains. The cinematographer has captured the ghats and the local cultures of every area they visited, which makes the movie culturally diverse. The local flavors in the movie keep it interesting as well. The story is definitely not a new concept as we have seen Bollywood movies using bhang in Holi sequences and songs, but making an entire movie around it has raised the bar for this drink.

All the characters in the movie have their own quirks, adding to its comedy quotient. Their different backgrounds are an add-on. The songs in the movie work well in the northern region. To sum it up, it is a happy-go-lucky story of a few college friends, who can go to any extent for their friendship.

What Could Have Been Better:

The performances of the actors in the movie were average, but the goofiness of their characters overshadows the same. Meanwhile, the constant change of costume during the span of one day makes it a tad unrealistic.

Why You Should Watch The Movie:

If you have ever had a bhang-hangover, you'll relate to this movie. You can definitely watch it for the comedy as well.
