Director Dennis Dugan, responsible for snooze fests like “Grown Ups” has pulled another downer. Filled with clichés and lame jokes, it’s nothing more than a showcase of hot bods in sunny Hawaii. The storyline is suspiciously similar to that of the 2005 Bollywood flop “Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya”. This one, however, is neither crass nor witty; it’s just full of jokes that are too old to be noticed.
The cast doesn’t add much character to the humor either. Aniston tries too hard with the quirkiness and Sandler looks old and bored. Some reprieve comes from a cameo by Nicole Kidman and her over the top performance. Brooklyn Decker does what she is expected to. The most disappointing part, however, is the lack of chemistry between Aniston and Sandler. Aniston still looks great at 42, but whatever chemistry they rumored to have shared, is long gone.
Danny (Sandler) is a plastic surgeon with a golden trick to score with the ladies, the gold wedding band. Sob stories about a bad marriage and voila, score! But what happens when this overgrown child meets ‘the one’. He has to ask his assistant – single mom Katherine (Aniston) and her kids, to be his fake wife (soon to be ex) and her kids. So off they go to Hawaii for an extended family vacation. And after many lame jokes, a vulgar episode involving a sheep, some skin show and what seems like forever, Danny and Katherine realize their affections for each other.
Verdict: Don’t just go with it
