Short films are made such because they are not supposed to beat around the bush but tell the story straight. Kheer starring Anupam Kher is one such film that tell us how a person in love will always emphatize with another. Directed by Surya Balakrishnan, this short will take you through many memories from your childhood that you cherish.
Anupam Kher (as Nanu) and Natasha Rastogi (as Rekha) are having a conversation while she cleans a cupboard and he complains about her bad singing. The bell rings and two of Anupam Kher's grandchildren come into the house. They find an unknown lady sitting there. The elder one, who is apparently crushing over a guy Aditya, thinks of Rekha to be her Nanu's girlfriend. Angry and irritated with the idea of replacement of her late nani, she goes outside the house and sits on the stairs. Nanu talks to her and wins her over with her favorite kheer and telling her he knows about her boyfriend as well.
A film that initially looks like a love story of two elderly people changes to a tale of the relationship a grandparent and their grandchildren share. It is very raw, real and sensitive. The actors make it look like a regular family and the story like one of your own. Everyone can relate to it and smile.
Kheer eventually shows how love and relationships are a part of every stage of life, from the time you are just a teenager to when you are three generations old. The six-and-a-half-minute long recipe of Kheer can be relished and recommended.
