With recent news about Saumya Tandon of Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai fame quitting the show, fans of this much loved rustic comedy were really upset. Gorimem, as the actress is known in the series, took to Twitter to relax her fans and all seems well with the team now.
What is it that makes the series so special? A lot of people are curious regarding the popularity of the series. Well, a fan can better explain you the reasons. But the secret ingredient here is, no doubt, the cast, and we mean every character who makes the show.
The characters with their idiosyncrasies flavored with the local Kanpur taste will definitely lighten up your mood on a bad day. Here are our favorites:
1. The lead cast
The lead characters are so beautifully crafted that each one has its own charm and is irreplaceable. Vibhuti Mishra (Aashif Sheikh) as the sophisticated yet unemployed husband, Manmohan Tiwari (Rohitash Gaud) as the chauvinist businessman, Anita (Saumya Tandon) as the glamorous and ambitious modern woman and Angoori (Shubhangi Atre) as a simple adorable bhabhiji will make you laugh your lungs out.
He is one of the most eccentric and weirdest characters ever seen in the history of Indian television. A maniac with masochist tendencies, he is extraordinarily talented but it is his antics that make him a popular face in the series. And who can forget his signature catchphrase ‘I like it’ which is downright creepy yet hilarious. It is played by veteran actor Saanand Verma.
3. Happu Singh
Happu Singh represents all the bribe-seeking police officers in the localities of Kanpur. With his recurrent lamenting over his nine children and a pregnant woman, his typical lackadaisical attitude and the very local dialect make him one of the most interesting characters in the series.
4. Tika and Malkhan
These are roadside Romeos who get beaten up all the time by either Vibhuti, Manmohan or Happu Singh. Though not as integral as the other characters, the two pack in a lot of humor in the limited time they share the screen space with the others.
Apart from these principal characters, there are many who appear now and then with their own little eccentricities and uniqueness. To know more about why the show is so popular and to understand what words like guhiyaan, chirand mean or the craze around catchphrases like Sahi Pakde Hain and I am Saary, watch the show now.
