Actors are worshiped like demi-gods in South India. Their demeanor, their dialogues, their unique sense of style, everything seems to attract the attention of their fans. Stars get this amount of unparalleled attention because of the films they star in. The most number of films, the bigger attention they get. In 2012, at the audio launch of Vikram Prabhu‘s debut film Kumki, legendary actor Rajinikanth had advised young heroes to work on multiple films a year. K-town heroes have taken his advice seriously taking up more than one film a year, to establish their star power in the industry. We take a look at some actors who are starring in multiple films this year.
Ever since the mid 90s, Rajinikanth has consciously worked on his ‘one film a year’ policy. But now, after 25-long years, the actor has decided to break the habit. He is currently working on Kabali and 2.0 simultaneously. While he plays the role of a don in the former, he will be seen reprising the role of Chitti – The Robot, in 2.0, which is a sequel to the highly-successful film Endhiran. Kabali is said to release this summer, while the makers of 2.0 have announced that the film will release in 2017.
Vikram spent close to three years prepping for his role in I, and couldn’t sign any other film. Now, the actor is trying to make up for lost time. He is currently working on Anand Shankar’s Iru Mugan, in Malaysia. His other project include Thiru’s Garuda.
Prabhas had dedicated three years of his life to work solely on S.S Rajamouli’s Baahubali. He is continuing with the same mantra for the second part of the film as well. However, the other actors of the film, have the liberty to work on other projects. Rana Daggubati is currently working on Ghazi, a film being made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. He will also begin working on Leader 2, which is a sequel to his debut film Leader.
Music director-turned-actor, G.V. Prakash has been quite a success in his new role too. His debut film, Darling was a hit. The young actor is currently working on Bruce Lee, and Ennaku Innoru Per Iruku, which will be directed by Sam Anto.
Lately, Vishal has been a part of at least two films a year. Last year, he starred in Aambala and Payum Puli. Both films fared well at the box office. The actor began 2016 with Kathakali, which is running to packed houses. He is currently working on Marudhu, which will release this year as well.
With Gethu receiving average to negative reactions, 2016 didn’t quite begin on a note Udhayanidhi would have wanted it to. The actor is already geared up for his next project. He will be seen in Ahmed’s Manithan (a remake of the Hindi film Jolly LLB), an untitled project along side Vishnu Vishal and a film produced by Sri Thenandal Films.
After dedicating his time for the Nadigar Sangam elections and the Chennai flood relief work, Karthi, is now shooting simultaneously for two films — Thozha and Kashmora. Thozha (releases in Telugu as Oppiri) will also star Nagarjuna and Tamannaah. His other movie, Kashmora, a supernatural thriller, will see the actor in triple roles.
Vikram has been shooting in Kashmir for Wagah since last year. The project is almost complete. Vikram Prabhu has started shooting for Veera Sivaji, in which he is paired opposite actress Shamlee.
