Verdict: An entertaining film that inspires you to be you.
Kung Fu Panda is a rare franchise that works even in its third installment. While in the second movie, Po discovered the fact that he is adopted, in Kung Fu Panda 3, the lovable Panda meets his biological father, Li Chan (Bryan Cranston). Li’s character plays an important part in the film as he wants to take his son away to help him master the art of chi. The duo set off to a secret panda village, much to the annoyance of Po’s other dad, Mr. Ping (James Hong). Once he reaches his new home, Po begins to live like other pandas, which means a change in sleep patterns, eating habits (say ‘bye-bye’ to chopsticks) and even the way he walks.
The makers have introduced many new characters in this film but most of the old ones also make an appearance. Master Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), Master Viper (Lucy Liu), Master Monkey (Jackie Chan) and Master Mantis (Seth Rogen) reprise their roles but get less screen time than before. Kung Fu Panda 3 looks visually stunning and it shows that the makers have paid great attention to detail. The 3D scenes are far and few in between, but the film will certainly be more enjoyable on the big screen. Most of the dialogues are hilarious and will make you burst out laughing. The scene in which Po and his father meet is atrociously funny.
Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have lent their voices to the characters in this film, and all of them have done a fine job. In fact, JK Simmons may just have another career option besides acting. The actor, who voiced the character of Mayor Lionheart in Disney’s recently released Zootopia, has done the voice-over for the antagonist Kai in Kung Fu Panda 3. Kai, is a vicious Yak, who manages to steal the powers of many warriors.
