Kya Super Boring Hai Hum
Review: The film has been marketed as a sex comedy unfortunately, it’s nothing more than a compilation of all the silly double meaning jokes we heard in class 7 as budding teens. A time when slightly double meaning PJ’s made us chuckle. That is probably the kind of audience that might enjoy this film. But it’s definitely not for adults and it’s definitely not a comedy. I might have smiled at a few of the below the belt gags, but laugh, I definitely did not.
Adi (Tushar Kapoor) is the aspiring actor working as a fairness cream model on a teleshopping channel. He is in love with Simran (Neha Sharma). Sid (Riteish Deshmukh) is an aspiring DJ who is waiting for a big break. His companion is his pug (dog) who has a very interesting sex life (yes, even the dog is not spared). His love interest – Anu, (Sarah Jane Dias) a model. Simran, for some odd reason wants to get rid of Adi, so she tells him she’s into girls, not guys. Things begin to fall apart and get even more chaotic when the two boys follow the girls to Goa with the intention of convincing Simran to come back to Adi. More madcap characters are added to the mix, one of them – Marlo (Anupam Kher), who thinks his mother is reincarnated as a dog. Another senseless character – Baba 3G (Chunky Pandey), the guru cum con artist who advices Marlo on everything.
If you thought the plot is lame and boring, wait till you hear some of the dialogues. Disclaimer: Profanity alert. My name is Marlo (mar lo). “Meri ma ka naam hai Rosemary Marlo” (Rooz meri mar lo). Impression macho dena (ma ch*d dena). Adam:" I’m sorry."
Sid: “Hi Sorry, I’m Sid.”
Adam: “You’re so witty.”
Sid:"You’re so Churchgate” (V.T – Churchgate, get it *rolling eyes*).
In another scene, Sid looks around to see three people on one end and two on the other end of a pool having fun. He comments “Threesome, twosome” then looks at his hand and says, "aur main abhi tak handsome." I could go on and on… this is the kind of torture I went through for 2.5 hours.
The 2005 comic caper Kya Kool Hai Hum turned out to be a surprise hit. But this one unfortunately is juvenile, wannabe and most of all – boring. There’s eye candy for the boys – Sarah Jane Dias. Tushar once again proves that he cannot act. Riteish has great comic timing but even he can’t save this film from its poorly written fate.
There is a possibility that a good chunk of audience will enjoy this audacious onslaught of pedestrian humor. But as far as I am concerned, this kind of humor (if you can call it humor) is definitely not my cup of tea.
Verdict: Watch it if you find juvenile, double meaning jokes funny. People with average and above average IQ’s please avoid.
