Lessons for Life by Russell Peters

"Then the Lord formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life."...Then he categorised the men into Indians, Chinese people, cheap people, Arabs, handicapped people, Black people, Latinos etc… and then he made Russell Peters. Now why would God do such a thing? So that he could roll from one city to another, reminding all men that irrespective of their race, creed and colour they’re all "gonna get a hurt real bad."

Peters’ job is to make people laugh. But unknowingly he’s been teaching us lessons through his stand-up acts. Here’s what we think:

Lesson No.1
It’s okay to laugh at yourself and more importantly not take yourself seriously.

This a typical scenario at a Russell Peters act. He comes on stage, begins his act and randomly picks on those who’re sitting in the first few rows. Yep, he picks on those very people who’ve spent the most money to see him perform live. Regardless of whether you’re White, Black, Indian, non-Indian, he’s going to find you and he’s going to rip you apart and you know what’s the funniest part? You’re not going to feel bad about yourself, but laugh real hard. All the world’s a joke, afterall.

Lesson No.2
We’re all messed up in some way or the other, regardless of our race, creed and colour.

This goes out to all those pessimistic a**es who believe in the adage that, "the grass is always greener on the other side." Russell artistically demonstrates how everybody, across the world has their baggage. We have to admit that as Indians, we have a sanitation issue and drainage problems topped with a population problem. But hey, everyone is messed up in some way or the other. Check his Outsourced episode and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Lesson No.3

Everything is forgiven if you say it in a funny way.

So how does Peters go about making racial slurs in front of a packed arena and get away with it? It’s the humor? Heard the saying, "make a girl laugh and she’s all yours?" Truth is, "make anybody laugh and they’re all yours." Imagine escaping tense situations at work by making your superiors laugh, life would be bliss.
I strongly believe that developing a sense of humor should be taught in classrooms and homes and if possible in the womb itself. Imagine a world, where everywhere a baby that comes out of a womb, cracks a ‘yo mamma’ joke. That’s the kinda world I want to live in.

Lesson No.4

Whoever taught you to be nice to people, was wrong!

What good has "being nice" done to anybody? What is nice? Nice is nothing, nice is boring. Be the mean person is what Russell says. Russell is the world’s third richest comedian, having banked earnings of around $21 million. And how has he managed to build this fortune? By being an a**hole to all those people who pay 100s of Dollars to watch themselves and others being ripped apart. We have to admit it, we’re a bunch of sadists.

All hell is going to break loose in Mumbai tonight as Russell gets on the stage as a part of his Russell Peters Notorious World Tour 2013. Picture this, we’re Indians and we have Bollywood and Peters hates Bollywood. Imagine the level of insults!
