Thanksgiving has always been the highlight of November, which also means it is time to begin Christmas preparations. November though is known for so much more. In the past few years, a trend that has become an inseparable part of November is the No-Shave-ember. It is an annual activity to create awareness about cancer by embracing body hair, which the cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. While this s a rather unique way of creating awareness, there is still a lot more to November than you think.
So, while you have been preparing for the No-Shave month since October, take a look at five such observances in the month of November.
A bit similar to No-Shave-mber, Movember is also an annual event involving the growing of moustache to create awareness about various cancers. It is run by Movember Foundation which is housed at the website movember.com. Their gold is to "Change the face of men's health". And the annual event is just not about growing a moustache, it has a lot more to it. They have Moscars, an online global user-submitted video contest. Then there is an International Man of November held at the end of November where the best participant (who by the way are called Mo-Bros) wins the title.
Novel Writing Month
November is also the Novel Writing Month. And as the name suggests, you write a novel in the month. But the catch is that you start writing the novel at 00:00:00 November 1 and you have to complete it by 23:59:59 November 30, which is, indeed, a seat-of-your-pants and fun approach towards creative writing.
Don't worry, if you get stuck somewhere, there are many online portals and websites that help you talk to other writers and discuss, so that you could get the better of the writer block. It is not too late, you can start right away.
Cancer Awareness Month
Keeping aside the observances, November is the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and the Lung Cancer Awareness Month. There are many activities that happen all over the world to create awareness about different kinds of cancer.
For example, The World Cancer Congress (held from October 31 to November 3 this year, when more than 3000 people from across the world networked and exchanged knowledge and best practices on cancer science implementation) and the Great American Smokeout.
Child Safety and Prevention Month
November also highlights a issue that is very near and dear to our heart, safety of our little ones. Every year, preventable injuries kill over one million children around the world and the Child Safety and Prevention Month is dedicated to creating awareness and educating parents about the rights and lives of kids.
November is also the Child Mental Health Month.
Adopt a Senior Pet Month
This month is also dedicated to our best friends, our pets. November is also known as the Vegan Month, Pet Cancer Awareness Month, Pet Diabetes Month and Pet Awareness Month. One more observance followed in this month is adopting a senior pet. Generally, a person or a family plans on adopting a baby animal as their pet, so they can stay with them for a longer period of time. The month is dedicated to educating people why it's awesome to adopt an older pet too.
There are many other interesting things that people do in the month of November like Share family stories, home care and collect stamps. Do you also follow any of these? Do let us know in the comments below.
