You heard that right. The Khans are indeed coming together for a new movie. This will be the third Bollywood film produced by one of them, as the other is set to take on a key role in the film. The actor had a good run in Bollywood last year with superhits like Piku and Talvar, but his only release this year did not fare as well. The said producer, on the other hand, is delivering one hit after the other, because his fans don’t seem to get enough of him. If you haven’t figured it out already, we are talking about the Bhai of Bollywood, Salman Khan, whose next production venture will feature Irrfan Khan.
The movie, which has been titled ‘Lion of the Sea’, has been based on the famous Komagata Maru incident. In 1914, a steamship by that name was carrying 376 citizens of the British Raj with the aim to emigrate them from Hong Kong to British Columbia (a territory of the British Empire in Canada). However, upon reaching there, 352 people were not allowed to disembark due to racial profiling, and the ship was forced to return to India. While racism was widespread during that time, it isn't as if it was been rooted out completely even today, especially considering the current global political scenario. Hence, the movie is fairly topical, and Irrfan Khan is set to play the role of Gurdit Singh, one of the central figures of the incident.
Now before you get all excited, remember that Irrfan is currently busy shooting for Homi Adajania’s Takadum, and Salman is focusing on his next Eid release, Tubelight, and end-of-year release, Tiger Zinda Hai. In fact, shooting for Lion of the Sea is not likely to start till mid-2017. So don’t hold your breath, but definitely watch this space for more news about the upcoming film.
