Verdict: Sharwa and Maruthi start off with a winner.
Mahanubhavudu starring Sharwanand and Mehreen Kaur Pirzada in lead roles is written and directed by Maruthi Dasari. The film has been produced by Pramod Uppalapati and Vamsi Krishna Reddy under the banner UV Creations. This is the first time that Maruthi is directing Sharwanand and Mehreen and it is the first time that Sharwa and Mehreen are acting together. Fresh from the stupendous success of Shathamanam Bavathi this Sankranti, Sharwa had one more release in the form of Radha and is now back with Mahanubhavudu for Dussehra. His earlier movies for UV Creations, Run Raja Run and Express Raja, have been hits at the box office. Will Mahanubhavudu be a hat trick? Let’s see.
Anand (Sharwanand) suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He needs everything clean or else he gets frustrated. He lives with his mother and cousin Kishore (Venella Kishore). He works as a Project Manager in a software company and happens to meet Meghana (Mehreen) who joins the same company and works with Anand. Anand and Meghana gradually fall in love with each other. Meghana hails from a village and her father Ramraju (Nasar) is a respected person of the village. Srinu is Megahana’s cousin and is a very good wrestler at the village who wins many fights for Ramraju. Srinu wants to marry Meghana. But when Ramraju accepts Anand and Meghana’s love, Srinu takes a U-turn and fights against Ramraju. What happens next must be seen on the silver screen.
Sharwanand is fantastic in the role of an OCD affected person. His histrionics and emotions have been portrayed very well. Mehreen is beautiful and has excelled in a good role. Nasar is good in the role of Mehreen’s father. Venella Kishore is decent as Sharwa’s cousin. Venu can bring in laughter even in a short role. The rest of the cast is adequate.
Maruthi recreates the magic of Bhale Bhale Magadivoyi with Mahanubhavudu. Though both the movies fall under broadly similar genres, they create a mark. The music and the background score by Taman are outstanding. The background music in the climax fight comes in as a surprise and is fantastic. The cinematography by Nizar Shafi is excellent. The editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is neat and crisp. The production values by UV Creations are top notch.
