Bollywood and love stories are like the same thing – these include a hero, a heroine, a villain or many villains who can obviously be defeated by one single punch, some friends and obviously parents, that may or may not accept the love affair. Well! Coming back to the protagonists, the leading ladies are powerful today and have changed the way women are portrayed in Bollywood, and the same goes for the men – cinema has evolved in the past decade and so have the onscreen characters. Some onscreen husbands and wives are people you would never want to meet in real life or even be involved with. Therefore,
the title of worst onscreen spouses in Bollywood would definitely go to –
Priyanka Chopra (7 Khoon Maaf) – The movie revolves around Sussana’s failed marriages that finally end in murder. This broken-hearted girl turns into a vicious vixen and clearly doesn’t understand the idea of divorce. Well! The alternatives here are poison and snakes. She doesn’t seem to give up on love and gets involved with erroneous men and gets away with 6 murders too. Now that’s certainly not the bride of your dreams, is she?
Sridevi (Judaai) – It is rather difficult to decide which spouse was the silly one, Sridevi for selling her hubby for a whopping Rs. 2 Crore to Lady Richie Rich (Urmila Matondkar) or Anil Kapoor for being so sly and finally giving in to this meaningless barter. Well, Sridevi it is.
Naveen Andrews (Provoked) – Aishwarya Rai is a victim of domestic violence in the movie and also has been raped by her husband many a time. The drunk character played by Naveen Andrews whose misbehavior and torture provokes Ash to set him on fire that leads to his end and her suffering and pain, this is one such saga that touched some corners of the heart for many and provided a platform of critically-acclaimed performances. These kind of people still exist in many parts of the world even today and are the kind you wouldn’t really want to know.
Shahrukh Khan (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna) – This movie portrays 2 of the many troubled marriages in the world, who somehow cross paths and cheat on their better halves. Shahrukh Khan’s sour tongue was enough a pain already that infidelity also came in. A common problem of one and all, this movie showcases a character that is outrageous and a part of a devastated relationship. Working on mending some part of themselves somehow.
Saif Ali Khan (Kurbaan) –The movie shows a common issue that has always existed and emerged on the surface even more in recent times. This movie showcases a jihaad-seeking terrorist who woos the girl in order to get a Green card. These are the NRIs and hot guys you want to stay away from.
Worst onscreen spouses are many and the above mentioned are the kind you’ll be happy exist in reel life only.
Although the onscreen couples showed great chemistry in most cases, the characters are the ones you’d love to hate.
