It’s time for another big box office clash. The two Hindi films that are releasing for Independence Day are Rustom and Mohenjo Daro. There’s a lot riding on both these movies, mainly because of their lead actors. Mohenjo Daro marks Hrithik Roshan’s comeback to the big screen after two years, and going by how his last film (Bang Bang) fared, he desperately needs a hit. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, began the year with the superhit movie, Airlift, and if Rustom does well, it will just be the icing on the cake. While you still have to wait till Friday to catch Mohenjo Daro and Rustom in cinemas, here’s everything you need to know about them.
Both Mohenjo Daro and Rustom claim to be inspired by true events. The Hrithik-starrer showcases the site that existed in 2500 BC and how people in that region fought against a tyrannical ruler. If you’ve seen the trailer of Rustom, you’ll know that it’s based on the case of K. M. Nanavati, the Naval Officer who was accused of murdering his wife’s lover.
Since it is a period drama, Mohenjo Daro, took a lot of time in the making. Ashutosh Gowariker took nearly two years to complete the movie as Hrithik’s injury caused a delay in the shoot. Rustom, on the hand, was shot in a start-to-finish schedule which began in February 2016.
The makers of both the movies are trying out various marketing strategies to make people aware of their film. Akshay Kumar is getting celebrities like Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh to promote his film. Unfortunately, Hrithik Roshan hasn’t been so lucky with support from the industry, but he and his co-star, Pooja Hegde, are promoting Mohenjo Daro through reality shows.
It has been reported that Hrithik Roshan is miffed with Akshay Kumar as the latter did not push forward the release date of Rustom. Hrithik wanted Mohenjo Daro to be a solo release but Akshay refused to budge. This has caused a rift between the two superstars and we hope they sort out their issues soon.
