A lot can be said about a book whose theme transcends time. The classics genre is named so because the novels which come under this have themes which are still to some extent relevant today. They retain the freshness in terms of themes and characters in spite of the years that have passed since their publication. One such author whose books still create an impact is Jane Austen. Her books were known for their commentary on the lifestyle during her times and her critique of it. Times have changed but some of her themes if adapted into modern movies still make a lot of sense.

While adapting a Jane Austen novel into a movie or a TV series, they can either make it a period drama or set it in contemporary times. Guess what- both versions turn out excellently! Here are five movies which were adapted from her novels and they all went the modern way.

Based on: Emma

It might seem like a chick-flick but it is considered one of the best contemporary adaptations.

From Prada to Nada
Based on: Sense and Sensibility

The novel was said to be semi-autobiographical in nature, and we're glad to see what Jane would have been like in modern times.

Bride and Prejudice
Based on: Pride and Prejudice

Starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, this movie proved that the novel can be set in India, too.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries
Based on: Pride and Prejudice

What if Elizabeth Bennett vlogged all of the happenings in the Bennet household? Watch this to find out.

Scents and Sensibility
Based on: Sense and Sensibility

Another stellar adaptation of the novel set in our times.
