We all have been there; at some point in our lives where we ponder over our existence – introspect our life choices, question the vastness of space or our own earthly significance. Well, that’s a sort of crisis we generally encounter every once a while but rarely do movies do that for you.

Movies are meant for mass entertainment and it’s often said to ‘leave your brain aside before watching’. Well, some filmmakers would beg to disagree on this as they visualize filmmaking as an art to portray a bigger picture. These movies challenge your mind, stimulate your intellect or for a lack of better phrase – make you more dumbfounded. We get you five such movies that would fire up those neurons.

The Truman Show (1998)
Imagine what if your entire life is just a big fat lie! Right from your high-end job to your own beloved parents, everything was a farce and nothing more than a mere television show. That’s what Jim Carrey’s character went through in the movie, The Truman Show.

Interstellar (2015)
Wormholes, black holes, interstellar travels, jeez! They always mess with your mind. To top it all, it was directed by Christopher Nolan, who has a penchant for puzzling storytelling.

Waking Life (2001)
This one is weird. Simple as that. But it’s also an imaginative, witty and mind-tripping ride. Not everyone’s cup of tea though.

Primer (2004)
Shane Carruth deserves a round of applause here for directing, writing and starring in his own film, which revolves around four fledgling entrepreneurs who accidentally build a time machine. Yes! This too involves time travel.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
This is a masterpiece. A monolith in cinematic history, Stanley Kubrick’s work is a high watermark of direction, execution and achievement. To rephrase it, it’s not something you watch; you experience it.
