Some movies occupy a special place in your heart. You can watch these movies innumerable times to the extent that you are quoting dialogues, and still, the magic remains. Sometimes these stories also leave room for more additions like Inception, where we saw the ending and had lots of questions. While we find ourselves working from home with some of our favorite movies playing in the background, we noticed that there are more movies with franchise potential that have yet to be bitten by the sequel bug. With the news that Go Goa Gone might have a sequel soon, we have a short list of 10 movies that need sequels stat.
Gabbar – Kitney sequel hai?
Us – Zero
Gabbar – Bohot Naa insaafi
A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
A novel series, which is a trilogy in five parts, at least deserves eight movies (don’t ask us how we calculated that). Or 42. With today’s advancement in CGI and VFX, we can see something like the Infinite Improbability Drive on its full potential and who wouldn’t like to see more of Marvin the paranoid android. There are more timey-wimey stories from the books that have to make their way to the big screen.
A movie starring Keanu Reeves and a TV show that lasted one season doesn’t do justice to this character. He is one of the few independent characters who can find his way in any other DC superhero movie. We would love to see him alongside Batman exchanging snide remarks or with Wonder Woman as they battle the unknown. Constantine is one of the most well-written characters in the DC lore and deserves at least a Dark Knight style trilogy.
There is no doubt that Inception is a brilliant movie. While Christopher Nolan is on his mission to prove that we don’t need CGI has crafted amazing scenes using practical effects. Even the concept of having a dream within a dream has created spin-off memes. The sequel can finally answer whether Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) was still inside a dream or not. It can also take us on yet another adventure of incepting thoughts inside someone’s mind.
If there was a movie that discussed inclusivity and a few social evils in the simplest and the best way ever, it was Zootopia. There can either be new adventures with Judy Hoops or a spin-off with one of the side characters like the Sloths. We can already imagine the possibilities here.
Delhi Belly (2011)
This gem (pun intended) of a movie has an entire generation quoting its dialogue. The movie was a black comedy by Aamir Khan productions with people still watching it with their friends. Delhi Belly released almost a decade ago, and we would love to see what the trio is up to now.
Green Lantern (2011)
We know now that there is so much that Ryan Reynolds can do with a superhero movie if he puts his heart in it. While we are talking about the Justice League and sequels, maybe it is time to give another chance to this movie so that we have our dream Justice League on screen.
London had its share of thumkas and now we want to see Rani (Kangana Ranaut) go on even more adventures. The movie is every female solo travelers’ motivation to go out into the world and their parents’ nightmare. The sequel can answer a few questions like – ‘Will Rani find love again and Is that even important?’ Also, more international destinations.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy (2015)
The west has multiple renditions of James Bond and Sherlock Holmes whenever there is a need for a good whodunit. What we need is more of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy to fulfill that same need. Sushant Singh Rajput‘s performance as the titular calendar found favor among the critics and the audience, and we need Dibakar Banerjee to say more of these stories.
Stree is one of the few movies that left some room for a sequel, but we haven’t heard any news about it yet. This movie changed the way we look at horror-comedy and films that are more feminist. We would love to see more of these stories covered in rural India with a twist that no one can see coming.
Don’t forget to wash your hands and stay safe!
