Whether it be that their appreciation was short-lived or they never really received the praise and discussion that they deserved, there are a few underrated action movies to watch out for. So if you are a fan of the genre and want to indulge in some hardcore action fest over the weekend then this article is for you. Even if you are not, well, then you should not miss these few picks that are sure to restore your faith in the action genre.

The Rundown (2003)
Back in the day, Dwayne Johnson was more famously known as The Rock before he chalked out a career for himself in Hollywood. He was stereotyped for roles that had more muscle than dialogues. But, The Rundown is generally a great action-comedy where Dwanye did a little more than smirk. Infact, due to his brilliant comic timing and physique, he fits the bill of a bounty hunter. There are some great fight scenes and cool scenes that will take your breath away. The fight scene between Ernie Reyes Jr. and The Rock is fantastic. Period.

The Raid :Redemption (2012)
This is one of the most underrated movies when it comes to action flicks. The plot is pretty simple – After getting stuck in a safe house belonging to drug lord, Rama (Iko Uwais) and his team must use whatever little ammunition they have to take him down and survive. The action scenes are beautifully choreographed and brilliantly executed, which put many other Hollywood biggies to shame.

The Raid 2 (2014)
Usually, sequels fail to build on the success of the previous movie but The Raid 2 was a pleasant surprise. This movie, takes the action up a notch with some awe-inspiring hand-to-hand combat sequences. Watch out for the the climax of the movie, that’s  just a cherry on the cake.

John Wick (2014)
Keanu Reeves may not be known for his acting skills but he surely knows how to kick some ass. The movie heavily relies on various techniques of mixed martial arts. Moreover, the action-choreographer on the set, Jonathan Eusebio is a student of famous martial arts instructor Dan Inosanto who was a disciple of Bruce Lee himself. What more do you need?

Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior (2003)
Actions speak louder than words? We agree. This one has more punch per second ratio than any other movie. The plot of the movie is pretty generic but it’s all about the action. Tony Jaa delivers some really kickass and top notch muay-thai action sequences. Most of the scenes are single, continuous shots which make it even more impressive.

Eastern Promises (2007)
A terrific, tight and violent  thriller with a soul and a heart is how one would sum up this movie. Directed by David Cronenberg, this masterpiece is as brutal as it gets and certainly not for everyone. The action is gut-wrenchingly real and some may even find it disturbing. Owing to the realism of these sequences, this makes it to our list.
