With the trailer of Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra-starrer Meri Pyaari Bindu out, a lot of people loved the look of Ayushmann who plays a writer in the film. Bollywood most of the time being obsessed with everything larger than life often forgets the charm of such regular yet charismatic characters.

Not so much in Bollywood but Hollywood has time and again presented the life of a writer through factual and fictional stories. Before we get ready to witness the Bengali writer in Ayushmann on May 12, let’s look at some of the films which made their protagonists look intense as writer and did a pretty decent job.

The Shining (1980)
This masterpiece by none other than one of Hollywood’s greatest directors Staley Kubrick stars Jack Nicholson as an ambitious writer. Though the writing bit was not emphasized much, the one particular scene with an old adage printed everywhere made everything just look crazy.

Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Wanna know what a writer’s romance looks like? Watch Ewan McGregor as the enigmatic poet, Christian in this musical extravaganza who pens down his love story in beautiful words.

Sinister (2012)
This horror movie featured Ethan Hawke as a writer who writes about true crimes. Only a true lover of thriller novels and novelists would understand the curiosity of the protagonist as he tries to uncover the sinister happenings in his house.

Saajan (1991)
Our very own Sanju Baba plays the role of a famous ghost poet known by his pen name SagarSalman Khan, who is set to create another khalbali soon with Tubelight, also starred in the film but the charm of the simple poet Sagar easily sidelined Bhai’s good looks then.

Baghban (2003)
An old man’s life story becomes an overnight sensation as a book penned down by him expressing his feelings about himself and his family gets published. Baghban saw the evergreen pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini playing the lead.

Shabd (2005)
That words have the power to change someone’s life is proved in this thriller that starred Sanjay Dutt and Aishwarya Rai.  The main plot of the film revolves around a disturbed writer who encourages his wife to have an affair with a fellow colleague while he spins a story around it.

Kapoor and Sons (2016)
Though the Kapoor family and their problems formed the film’s core, we loved the two brothers who were writers and directly influenced the entire storyline. True, everyone cannot be great with words but how we wish every writer turns out to be a Sidharth Malhotra or Fawad Khan lookalike.

We anxiously wait for the upcoming romantic drama Meri Pyaari Bindu to hit the screens. Maybe this time, the writer as the protagonist will get his due. Till then, enjoy the film’s trailer.
