Annihilation is a science-fiction drama directed and written by Alex Garland, releasing in India on the 23rd of February. It has an impressive all-female main cast starring Natalie PortmanJennifer Jason Leigh (seen in The Hateful Eight), Tessa Thompson (last seen in Thor: Ragnarok), and Gina Rodriguez (seen in Pacific Rim). To help you decide if it's the movie for you, we have a list of science-fiction movies like Annihilation.

Ex Machina

This was Alex Garland's first film as a director. Just like Annihilation, he both wrote and directed it and the result was a critical and box office success. Fans of Ex Machina will not be disappointed by Annihilation.

Blade Runner 2049

There aren't many science-fiction films that both delve into philosophical concepts and have stunning visuals. Blade Runner 2049 was one of them and from what we've seen in the trailer, Annihilation seems to be very similar and it has even been described as 'intellectual'.

Arrival is perhaps the closest science-fiction film to Annihilation. It had a linguist interaction with an alien species, while Annihilation has a biologist who interacts with a rapidly expanding phenomenon of 'Shimmer' that seems to mutate everything it touches.

Stalker isn't widely popular, but in case you've seen the auteur Andrei Tarkovsky's masterpiece, you'll find many similar themes in Annihilation. The director also stated in a Q&A that it is one of his favorite films.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Another one of the director's favorite films, 2001: A Space Odyssey is one of the most well-respected science-fiction films of all time. If this one makes your lists of favorites, Annihilation with its trippy visuals will be a delight for you to watch.

The Fountain

Directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, The Fountain blended fantasy, history, spirituality, and science-fiction into one fascinating watch. Annihilation also seems to go beyond the science-fiction genre with elements of fantasy and horror.

If you loved the measured and gradual build-ups in Interstellar, you can't go wrong with Annihilation. Although Annihilation has guns, the highlight of the film will be the dramatic tension. It may not be set in space, but there are many strange alien happenings to provide a gorgeous scenery.
