‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ pre-sold more tickets than the last 7 Marvel movies combined. Made on a lavish $300 million budget, it is one of the most expensive movies of all time. It has pushed the superhero envelope at the box office.
It has shattered the domestic box office opening records that were previously held by Sajid Nadiadwala’s ‘Baaghi 2‘ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat‘. It is unprecedented earning for a Hollywood film in India.
The Russo brothers helmed film has earned a whopping ₹31 crore on the first day itself. The previous biggest Hollywood movie opener was held by Furious 7 that earned ₹12 crore on day 1.
This is what trade analyst Taran Adarsh had to say:
“Baaghi 2 made 25.1 crores on its opening day. Even Padmaavat which benefitted from a Thursday release made only 19 crore (if you include the Wednesday premiere, it made 24 crores), in comparison. Infinity War has just set a new benchmark for Hollywood films in India.”
With this, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ also enters the highest openers of all time in India alongside blockbusters: Happy New Year ( ₹44.97 crore), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion ( ₹41 crore), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo ( ₹40.35 crore), Sultan( ₹36.54 crore) and Dhoom 3 ( ₹36.22 crore). Avengers: Infinity War ( ₹31 crore).
By earning 30.50 crores on its second day, the trade analysts predict it will cross the 100 crore mark very soon.
Meanwhile, it has taken over the global box office too. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ earned $250 million in its first weekend, domestically. It became the highest grossing weekend for any film domestically in the US. Infinity War defeated 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens which held this top spot with a $248 million weekend.
Infinity War scored the highest debut ever in South Korea ($39.2 million), Mexico ($25.1 million), Brazil ($18.8 million), the Philippines ($12.5 million), Thailand ($10 million), Indonesia ($9.6 million) and Malaysia ($8.4 million). In India ($18.6 million).
In addition to the domestic box office, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ also holds the highest first weekend collection for any film worldwide, with an unbelievable worldwide collection of $630 million in the first weekend.
Well, clearly the world can’t have enough of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. How about you? Seen it?
