Bright yellow mustard fields became synonymous for a clandestine affair to brew in the ’90s when the audience first saw Shahrukh Khan and Kajol sitting amidst the beautiful scenery. However, with the turn of the millenia, what you see is the hero dressed in a leather attire humming a popular romantic song, Tujhe Dekha Toh from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge in Punjabi. Bet you haven’t heard of this scene before. This is how Babli (Ranbir Kapoor) enters the scene. The one where he turns Besharam for the junta. The film is all set for release on October 2 this year. And we’ll get to see him in a different avatar after gaining the quintessential romantic hero status in the past 6 years he’s been in the industry. Of course, there is the love angle here too with Pallavi Sharda cast as the female lead in the film. After making her debut in Karan Johar‘s My Name is Khan, the actress seems all pepped up for her breakthrough role in this film directed by Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap.
The trailer is great fun to watch and has already demanded re-runs ’cause one finds it difficult to get over the charm that Ranbir Kapoor exudes in his roles, for there aren’t just one. From Raj to Barfi to Kabir, he’s already popular now as the Besharam Babli. There’s action, there’s comedy and lots of cheesy yet adorable lines. Definitely whistle-worthy to say the least. You may say that the actor has been partially Dabangg-ized. Not to forget that this will be the first time both the parents of the actor, industry veterans Rishi and Neetu Kapoor shall be working with Ranbir Kapoor in important roles as Chulbul Chautala and Bulbul Chautala. The couple was a popular romantic jodi in various films in the ’70s before Neetu Kapoor decided to take a break. Of course, it’s always great to watch this talented couple together. Those who’ve watched Habib Faisal’s Do Dooni Chaar as well as Yash Chopra’s last film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan would truly agree with us.
Watch out for a reprisal of his popular towel scene from Saawariya done a tad-bit differently. Besides, the film stars the very versatile Javed Jaffrey as the anti-hero. His most memorable roles include Jaggu in Salaam Namaste, Manav Srivastava in the Dhamaal movies and the original Ranchordas Shamaldas Chanchad in 3 Idiots.
Having said that, Dabangg director turns Besharam this year. Besides, Babli will once again be a famous name since superstars Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor both have been christened the same this year – From Badmaash Babli to Besharam Babli. Keep your dates free for this action-comedy for it sure seems one that shall not disappoint.
