Gold and Satyameva Jayate have found their way to the top 5 box office openers of 2018 list.
Akshay Kumar’s sports drama Gold and John Abraham’s Satyamev Jayate released their films in the middle of the week on account of Independence Day. Flim makers are known to usually release the movies on festivals and national holidays and it seems that the risk paid off.

Recently, most of Akshay Kumar’s movies have been a box-office hit. The movie, Gold, is directed by Reema Kagti, and the film takes us through the journey of India winning its first Olympic gold medal as an independent nation.
Akshay Kumar starrer Gold, which released on Independence Day, has managed to earn Rs 25.25 crore on its opening day. Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Gold has an EXTRAORDINARY Day 1… Takes a FAB START at plexes across major centers… Wed ₹ 25.25 cr. India biz.”
However, on the second day of its release, Thursday, the film saw a major dip in its collections, minting in about ₹8 crore, which takes its total collection so far to be ₹33 crore.
While it did clash with Gold at the box office, Satyameva Jayate performed well at the box office, reports Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Despite stiff competition from Gold, John’s film managed to collect over Rs. 20.52 crore.
The second day collection for Satyameva Jayate also saw a major dip with the film earning just ₹7.25-7.50. This takes the film’s collections so far to be at ₹28 crore approximately.
