South of India is familiar with the name Dulquer Salmaan or as he is fondly called – DQ. Known earlier as Megastar Mammootty’s son, Dulquer Salmaan has made a place for himself in the film industry down south. Not just a place but a legacy that extends from the Malayalam film industry to Tamil and Telugu industries. The versatile actor’s work in the three major industries down south has been immensely successful. And now, this charming actor is making his Bollywood debut with the Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar–starrer, titled Karwaan. But how well do Bollywood fans know this ‘oldest’ debutant?
Let’s introduce this wonder-boy of southern cinema to you.
Born as the youngest child to Malayalam superstar Mammootty and his wife Sulfath, Dulquer had it all to make it big in the film industry, if he used it well. But he stayed away from the limelight for the longest time.
At the age of 26, Dulquer made his film debut with the 2012 film, Second Show. He was a part of a few unconventional movies and was already married by the time he debuted. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he is married. He was also way past the age that young star kids in Bollywood usually make their debut at. None of this affected his acting abilities or how the audience reacted to him. His film received a mixed response from the audience and critics alike but he went on to bag the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
From here on, the actor went on to do a number of Malayalam films like Ustad Hotel and Theevram the same year. He also worked in other South Indian film industries with the movies Mahanati (Telugu) and OK Kanmani (Tamil). Karwaan is considered his fourth film debut. The most commercially hit movies of the actor are Bangalore Days, OK Kanmani, Mahanati, Kammatipaadam, and Charlie.
After having conquered the three major industries in South India, Dulquer is headed towards Bollywood. When news of him signing a Bollywood film reached everyone, his fans were ecstatic while many Bollywood fans who were not familiar with the actor wanted to know more about him. The poster of the Akarsh Khurana film created intrigue not only about the story but also about this ‘good-looking’ actor. The trailer released sometime later and only added to this intrigue.

The actor has signed another Bollywood film titled The Zoya Factor that will see him paired opposite Sonam Kapoor.
Looking at the pace at which Dulquer Salmaan is going in Bollywood, he may just create a place for himself in B-town as well. We must admit – whatever this boy touches, turns gold.
