The Silence of the Lambs actress turns 54 today. The 21st century kids may not know much about Jodie Foster but she is one of the best actresses of her generation. She has won the Academy Award twice, out of the four times that she was nominated. She also has two Golden Globes, three British Academy Film Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Jodie Foster makes her acting debut in a television commercial for the iconic brand of suntan lotion. She was only three years old at the time. 

1968: TV Debut

The actress is seen in the sitcom Mayberry R.F.D. The show was a spin-off of The Andy Griffith Show, where Foster makes an appearance as the sister of a cast regular. 

1972: Film Debut

After appearing in over 40 commercials and several TV shows, Foster stars in Napoleon and Samantha with Michael Douglas. She goes on to work for a number of Disney movies.

1976: Breakthrough Role

At 12 years of age, Foster plays one of the best roles of her career. She is a child prostitute in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, a role which got her an Academy Award nomination. 

1988: Academy Award

After a long hiatus, Foster makes her transition from a child actor to a mature actress. Her next acclaimed performance in Jonathan Kaplan’s The Accused wins her an Oscar

1991: Best Role

Foster’s performance in Silence of the Lambs wins her an OscarBAFTA, and a Golden Globe. The actress describes this as one of her favorite roles till date.

1991: Directorial Debut

After a successful career in acting, Foster makes her feature-film directorial debut with Little Man Tate. The movie is well appreciated by critics. 

2002: Commercial Success

While Foster was a successful actress in the 90s with movies like SommersbyMaverickNell, and Contact, her biggest commercial success comes with Panic Room.

2013: Cecil B. DeMille Award

Foster receives the honorary award at the Golden Globes for ‘outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment’.
